South Queensferry sits on the south shore of the Forth, in the City of Edinburgh council area rather than Fife, directly across the water from North Queensferry — but for anyone travelling by road, the two towns are only minutes apart over the Queensferry Crossing. It's one of the few places in Scotland where you can stand on one street and see three different bridges spanning the same stretch of water: the Victorian rail bridge, the older road bridge and the newer Queensferry Crossing.

Getting around South Queensferry
South Queensferry's High Street runs along the shoreline beneath the rail bridge, with narrow older streets branching up the hill behind it — easy enough on foot once you're there, less easy to park near on a busy weekend. A taxi avoids the search for a space around Hawes Pier or the town centre car parks, particularly during the Loony Dook on New Year's Day or when a cruise tender is running passengers ashore.

Nearby attractions and visitor information
The view of the three Forth bridges together is the main draw for a lot of visitors, and South Queensferry gives one of the best vantage points for it, particularly from the waterfront near Hawes Pier. Port Edgar Marina sits just along the shore, and Hopetoun House — one of Scotland's grandest stately homes — is a short drive further out, making South Queensferry a reasonable base for a longer day exploring this stretch of the Forth.
